Welcome to the Salyersville Renaissance on Main Program website.

In 1979, the Kentucky Heritage Council initiated the Kentucky Main Street Program with the purpose of the preservation and renovation of historic structures as a means of saving our downtown areas in Kentucky. Eventually, this evolved into the present Renaissance on Main Program, which is based on the national four-point approach of organization, promotion, design and economic restructuring. Cities in this program must become "Certified Renaissance Cities" in order for eligibility for funding from the Governor's Office of Local Development (G.O.L.D).

The city of Salyersville has been a certified city since 2002. The board of directors and manager of the Renaissance are dedicated to the goal of building a stronger Salyersville. Commitments of the group and its members include revitalizing downtown, supporting downtown business retail and tourism activities, developing small business, supporting local economic development and restoring historic treasures.

We also assist the city in the following endeavors: downtown beautification including streetscaping, landscaping, and banners; helping secure grants for façade renovation and restoration of downtown buildings; providing small business owners with useful information, resources and assistance.

The Renaissance Program is located in the heart of the city on the corner of Maple and Church streets. We take great pride in the ongoing restoration of our headquarters in the "Old Salyersville Bank building". The building was constructed in 1912 by Italian stonemasons who migrated to the area around the turn of the 20th century. It is a great example of their superior workmanship and artistic influences. Our beautiful facility is available for civic organizations, weddings and receptions, business meetings, showers, and events. (See our rental agreement for more information).

Studies show that communities with vibrant, healthy, active downtowns are seen as more pleasant places to live and work. This means that more businesses want to locate downtown, resulting in more economic and social activity overall.
